Today, at the Gartner IT Symposium in Barcelona, TeamViewer, a world leader in digital workplace solutions, announced the debut of Agentless Access. The new feature in TeamViewer’s business platform, Tensor, lets manufacturers and machine builders (OEMs) operate with machines and other operational technology (OT) systems from afar without having to install software on each device. The solution makes cybersecurity and compliance stronger in connected production environments while making things easier for both IT and OT teams.

TeamViewer Tensor is now completely set up for remote operations in the industrial and operational technology fields. Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH and other clients already use it to program PLCs from a distance, which lets them operate and automate machines on the shop floor. Agentless Access, which just came out, takes this feature to the next level by letting you manage OT endpoints, such as human-machine interfaces (HMIs), legacy systems, and closed devices from one central location. You don’t have to install software on each device.

This, along with Tensor’s Hybrid Conditional Access, gives manufacturers a full solution for safe, flexible, and controlled access over networks that are quite segmented. It also makes maintenance and troubleshooting easier.

Cyberattacks are becoming more common as factories modernize and become more linked. Organizations need safe, adaptable ways to connect that keep important systems safe while increasing uptime, making sure they follow the rules, and keeping control of operations.

Agentless Access solves these problems by letting manufacturers operate directly on PLCs (programmable logic controllers) and HMIs for maintenance or troubleshooting without having to alter the software on the devices. This gets rid of a key operational barrier that can cause downtime or risk. TeamViewer Tensor for operational technology makes sure that remote access is zero-trust across segmented networks and keeps them safe with detailed access controls, protocol isolation, and complete audit logging. This way, IT teams can still see and control things, while OT teams can still keep things running and safe.

“IT and OT have different goals, but they both have the same problem: making sure operations are safe and running,” stated Caroline Hempfing, Director of Product Management at TeamViewer. “Agentless Access” fills that gap. It allows manufacturers a safe means to connect to important systems from afar without breaking any rules or putting security at risk. This is a necessary in today’s connected production environment.

Agentless Access lets people work together safely in both IT and OT environments on one platform as the two areas become more connected. TeamViewer will show off the new functionality and other ways to make remote work safer at Smart Remote Service in Berlin and Microsoft Ignite in San Francisco. These events will show manufacturers how they can improve cybersecurity and operational efficiency.
