SAN JOSE, Calif.–( BUSINESS WIRE ) –NetApp® (NASDAQ:NTAP), a smart data infrastructure company, today announced an expanded four-year enterprise agreement with Google Cloud to accelerate the deployment of NetApp storage solutions in Google Distributed Cloud Airgap Isolated Edition (GDC), Google’s sovereign cloud platform provided by World Wide Technology (WWT). This end-to-end, airgap isolated private cloud solution provides organizations with the built-in security needed to handle sensitive information and meet data sovereignty requirements.
NetApp President Cesar Cernuda stated, “For government agencies and defense organizations, sensitive and classified information cannot leave a controlled environment, but this information is also crucial for AI-driven decision-making. By embedding NetApp’s securely designed storage systems into Google Distributed Cloud, we enable customers to build intelligent data infrastructure that provides the foundation for supporting certified enterprise-grade AI directly in sovereign and air-gap isolated environments. Today, public sector customers can modernize operations, accelerate insights, and innovate responsibly without sacrificing security, compliance, or national sovereignty.”
Google Distributed Cloud extends customers’ cloud infrastructure and services to wherever they need them, including on-premises data centers and the network edge. NetApp AFF, StorageGRID, and Trident solutions enable intelligent data infrastructure, which, combined with integrated GDC solutions, provides a private cloud with zero-trust security, enabling on-premises data storage, encryption key management, and control. Using these systems in GDC, customers can deploy cloud technologies and applications (including AI capabilities) and maintain greater control over their IT environments by bringing the cloud closer to the data source or creating air-gap isolation environments that restrict or eliminate external connections.
Muninder Sambi, Vice President of Product Management and Supply Chain at Google Cloud, stated, “In the public sector, organizations are being asked to do more with their data under increasingly stringent sovereignty, security, and compliance mandates. Google Distributed Cloud is designed for these environments, enabling customers to bring modern cloud services and advanced AI capabilities to sovereign, airgap-isolated, and offline environments. Through our partnership with NetApp, we are helping governments and regulated businesses innovate where their data resides, supporting mission-critical workloads with the highest levels of security, compliance, and operational integrity, without slowing down their transformation.”
Over the past year, Google Cloud has expanded its AI capabilities for regulated use cases. Gemini’s advanced inference and cutting-edge generative capabilities are now available at GDC to unlock key generative AI capabilities such as automation, content generation, exploration, and summarization on the ground. Customers can operate in a completely offline environment while still integrating Google’s AI capabilities, enabling innovation while meeting stringent security and compliance requirements.
WWT President Joe Koenig stated, “Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform the way every organization operates, even those facing the most stringent regulations to meet national security and data sovereignty requirements. Leveraging data-driven insights to drive business requires combining innovative AI capabilities with a robust infrastructure.”
